There’s no fast track
or no easy ride.
You must bump on down the rude road,
get caught up in the barbed wires.
Don’t let ‘em snag you,
honey cut yourself loose.
Even if you speak it with a wavering voice,
speak what you know to be true.

Don’t fall for the bullshit.
It’s everywhere and it stinks.
It will seep into your hair and clothes
the longer you let it.
Wash out immediately,
honey get yourself clean.
While you remain swathed in the stench of it,
the longer fail to be be free.

When all is said and done,
you’re not the evil one.
You’ve been the feeble one,
wilfully blind.
Seize the time,
cast off the lies your ego spun.
Reach high beneath the sun,
leave doubt behind
and be bold child.

Remember jealousy’s sour
and it’s crippling
Your body’s no place
for such a toxic thing.
Wash it out of your mouth,
scoop it out of your brain.
Breathe it out, you’re better
than to let it drive you insane.

People are bound by shared experiences.
Choose to see similarities and not the differences.
Trust that people at heart are good my dear
and the rest is just fear and confusion.

You too are scared and confused
so have empathy.
Another’s pain is still pain
even if it’s worn differently.
As for the peaceful moments of joy,
they’re the real ones.
Those ephemeral, fickle adrenaline highs
are just an addiction.

Remember to be brave,
whatever you do.
Cos systems and people will rattle you
and they’ll try and blur what is true.
If it’s all indistinct,
remember kindness is king,
and if you don’t stray away from bravery
compassion will find its way in.
